Actor Henry Cavill has confirmed his involvement in Amazon's upcoming live-action Warhammer 40,000 series, stating that he will star in the project. The series is being developed by acclaimed writer and director Mike Flanagan, known for his work on horror adaptations.
Cavill shared the news in an Instagram post, addressing fan speculation about his role. "Rest assured, I most certainly will!" he wrote, confirming his presence in front of the camera. He also revealed that significant progress is being made on the creative front, with him working alongside Flanagan to craft the story. "As the fans will know, it's an absolute monster to wrestle but Mike's extraordinary talents are helping it take form wonderfully," Cavill commented on the project's development.
The specific character Cavill will portray remains a secret. This has led to considerable speculation among Warhammer 40,000 fans, with potential candidates ranging from established figures like Inquisitor Gregor Eisenhorn to Captain Demetrius Tytus from the Space Marine video games. Cavill himself expressed openness to even more unconventional roles, humorously suggesting he would play an Ork if it meant a strong "Waaaagh!" delivery.
While Flanagan's background is primarily in horror, he has experience adapting large-scale media properties. He previously acquired the rights to Stephen King's Dark Tower series and has reportedly written scripts for its potential television adaptation. In the interim, Flanagan has produced numerous projects for Netflix and films, as well as a script for DC's upcoming Clayface movie.
The Warhammer 40,000 series is a collaboration between Cavill, Flanagan, and Games Workshop, with the stated goal of bringing the most authentic Warhammer universe possible to the screen. Cavill is also attached as a producer for the series.
