Hideo Kojima, the visionary behind the Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding series, recently marked his 63rd birthday by reaffirming his commitment to game development. Despite his advancing age, Kojima conveyed that he has no intentions of retiring and plans to continue pouring his energy into creating new titles.
In a statement shared on X, Kojima reflected on the balance between his ambitions and the finite time available. "As the years pile on, the things I 'must do' and the things I 'want to do' just keep multiplying. At the same time, the 'time I have available' keeps shrinking," he wrote. He emphasized the need for careful consideration of how he spends his time and lives his life.
This year also holds significance as it marks the 40th anniversary of Kojima's career in game creation and the 10th anniversary of Kojima Productions. To commemorate these milestones, the studio is planning the 'Kojipro Exhibition' at the Azabudai Hills Gallery from late October through the end of the year. An updated '10th Anniversary Ludens' version of the studio's iconic statue has been unveiled for the event.
Kojima acknowledged the numerous opportunities and offers he receives but reiterated his primary focus on game development. "I want to keep pouring my energy into game creation going forward," he stated, requesting continued support from fans.
While Kojima has previously explored interests in filmmaking and other creative mediums, his current slate suggests a continued dedication to interactive entertainment. Kojima Productions is actively working on several projects, including the experimental horror game OD and the stealth action title Physint. The continued development of these games indicates that Kojima's creative output will remain focused on the gaming sphere for the foreseeable future.
