Hideo Kojima, the visionary game designer, marked his 63rd birthday on August 24 with a reflective social media post detailing his thoughts on mortality and his ongoing commitment to game development. Kojima acknowledged that while he is aware his time is finite, he has no intention of slowing down, stating, "As I get older, the things I 'have to do' and the things I 'want to do' continue to increase. At the same time, the time I 'have to do them' continues to decrease." This awareness, he explained, prompts a constant reassessment of how he utilizes his time and lives his life, emphasizing that once a commitment is made, it cannot be abandoned. He also noted that 2026 will be a significant year, marking both his 40th anniversary in the game industry, which began in 1986, and the 10th anniversary of Kojima Productions, the studio he established after his departure from Konami. Despite receiving "various opportunities and offers" for other ventures, Kojima reiterated his desire to "remain focused on creating games." This dedication comes as he has several projects in development, including the espionage title Physint and the horror game OD. Previously, Kojima had reportedly declined an offer to direct a Death Stranding movie, with Michael Sarnoski ultimately taking the helm. In a nod to his birthday, Kojima Productions seemingly updated a night sky scene in Death Stranding 2. The studio also presented Kojima with a custom cake, as seen in social media posts shared by the studio and his friend Geoff Keighley.
