In Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced, players can acquire a variety of pets, primarily cats and monkeys, to accompany Edward Kenway aboard the Jackdaw. These companions, while not offering any gameplay advantages, provide a touch of personalization and charm to the pirate experience. Pets appear on deck when Kenway is at the helm and can be interacted with further in his cabin.
To obtain a pet, players must either complete specific local events or claim rewards through in-game systems or external promotions. Once acquired, pets are equipped via a dedicated tab in Edward's inventory. Only one pet can be active at a time.
Available Pets and Acquisition Methods
Several pets are available, with some requiring free in-game actions and others necessitating the purchase of downloadable content packs.
Soot the Cat, a feline companion, can be acquired by completing the "Cat Distribution System" local event in Great Inagua. This involves climbing to specific coordinates (819, 441) and interacting with a cat.
Albert the Monkey, a simian friend, is obtained by finishing the "Monkey Business" local event in Havana. Players must first defeat sailors on a nearby ship at coordinates (225, 568) before interacting with the monkey.
The Dark Animus Familiar, another monkey, is unlocked as a reward for the "Eye in the Dark" animus challenge. This requires collecting 600 data fragments, typically earned by completing Animus anomaly missions.
A Shipmate Monkey can be claimed by redeeming a code, ASC-BFR-PMK-000, on Ubisoft's official website. Players are advised to redeem this code promptly as it may expire.
Premium pets include Gold Tom, a golden cat, and three monkey variants: Sea Monkey, Warrior Monkey, and a third unnamed monkey associated with the Dragon Storm Naval Pack. Gold Tom is included with the Master Assassin Naval Pack or the Deluxe Edition of the game. The other purchasable pets are part of specific naval DLC packs: the Hellfire Naval Pack for a cat named Ashes, the Sea Serpent Naval Pack for the Sea Monkey, and the Dragon Storm Naval Pack for the Warrior Monkey.
Friendly Animals and Achievements
Beyond the Jackdaw's permanent residents, Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced also features "friendly animals" that can be petted or fed. This includes all cats, dogs, and cows, which can be petted. Turtles, chickens, and pigs can be fed. To complete the "Friend To All" achievement, players must interact with every species of friendly animal listed, plus one of the pet monkeys.
While seeking out these animal companions, players may also wish to focus on upgrading the Jackdaw with essential features, officers, and shanties.
