Inde Navarrette, who garnered significant attention for her performance in the recent horror film 'Obsession,' has been cast in a leading role in the upcoming sci-fi thriller 'The Waffle House Index,' from Apple Original Films. Navarrette will also serve as an executive producer on the project.

The film takes its name from a real-world metric used to gauge the severity of a hurricane's impact based on the operational status of a local Waffle House. However, the movie's narrative steers into stranger territory.

Navarrette is slated to portray a Waffle House waitress whose challenging evening takes a drastic turn when an armed stranger enters the establishment. The plot is described as escalating into a story that encompasses a major flood, killer crocodiles, a nuclear explosion, a hidden bunker beneath the restaurant, and alien involvement. This marks a significant shift from the contained, psychological horror of 'Obsession.'

'The Waffle House Index' is a new collaboration between Apple and Plan B Entertainment, the production company co-led by Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner, and Jeremy Kleiner. Plan B has previously worked with Apple on projects such as the racing drama 'F1.' The company also produced the recent horror film 'Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma' and is preparing to film 'The Bell Jar' with director Sarah Polley.

In addition to 'The Waffle House Index,' Navarrette has a thriller titled 'Invertigo,' about teenagers trapped on a roller coaster, that has already been filmed. Reports also suggest her potential involvement in Marvel's upcoming 'X-Men' film, indicating a busy period for the actress following her breakout role.
