Indie Navarrette, who gained significant attention for her role in the recent horror film "Obsession," has indicated that she would be interested in portraying Mystique in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This aspiration follows conversations she has had with X-Men director Jake Schreier.
Navarrette confirmed a meeting with Schreier in a recent interview, a discussion she had previously alluded to. While details of their conversation remain private, the actress suggested that her potential involvement in the MCU is still a possibility she contemplates. She acknowledged fan speculation about her joining the MCU, stating, "Every time that I see something like this I'll giggle because, like, obviously I know the truth, but I would love to be a part of Marvel."
Reflecting on her meeting with Schreier, Navarrette explained that she has been attending numerous meetings since "Obsession" gained traction. She expressed admiration for Schreier's directorial approach, particularly his work on "Thunderbolts*," which she felt revitalized what she loved about Marvel's character-driven narratives. "I just really wanted to congratulate him on bringing back my favorite thing of Thunderbolts*, and he's a very sweet person," she commented.
When asked about specific characters she would be interested in playing, Navarrette named Mystique. She cited the character's iconic status and her childhood fascination with the prosthetic makeup process involved in bringing mutants like Mystique to life on screen, recalling similar interests in the behind-the-scenes work for films like "Pirates of the Caribbean."
Navarrette's expressed interest in Mystique aligns with fan campaigns suggesting her for the role. While no casting has been confirmed, Marvel Studios is reportedly seeking younger talent for its upcoming X-Men adaptations. Coincidentally, Rebecca Romijn, who previously portrayed Mystique, is set to return alongside other X-Men actors in "Avengers: Doomsday."
