Sony has unveiled a new trailer for "Jumanji: Open World," which is set to be the third and final film in the series to feature Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson in a starring role. The trailer provides a glimpse of new characters who encounter the video game avatars from the previous films as they appear in the real world, accompanied by a parade of wild animals.

Facing escalating threats spilling into reality, the new characters opt to re-enter the Jumanji game. This action brings Johnson, alongside returning cast members Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, and Jack Black, back to their digital personas. The film is scheduled for release on December 25, following a shift away from a crowded early December slate that included "Avengers: Doomsday" and "Dune: Part 3." This release date was also moved to avoid direct competition with "Red One," another Dwayne Johnson film released during the holiday season.

The franchise's return comes after a period of mixed box office results for Johnson's recent projects, including "Red One," the live-action "Moana," and the 2022 film "Black Adam." The intervening years have also seen delays for "Jumanji: Open World," attributed to the COVID-19 pandemic and director Jake Kasdan's work on "Red One." Despite the previous entries' commercial success, Sony has confirmed that "Jumanji: Open World" will be the franchise's final installment for the foreseeable future.
