Microids and Old Skull Games have announced K-Pop Rising – Dream To Shine, a new rhythm game set to release in November for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Windows PC. The game focuses on a player-created musician aiming to achieve stardom within the K-pop industry, featuring customization options for outfits and makeup, along with the ability to recruit band members.

Gameplay will incorporate rhythm sequences that include singing and choreography. According to Microids, the game offers a comprehensive experience of the music world, blending rhythm mechanics, extensive customization, and community management suited for the social media era. Players will work alongside an in-game companion named Nova, progressing from studio training to performing on prestigious stages.

Initial details suggest K-Pop Rising will balance simulation elements with its core rhythm gameplay. While screenshots have primarily highlighted the music sections, some UI elements from outside of performances and a photo mode have also been shown. The game will support up to three-player co-op.

The announcement notes a clear thematic and visual connection to the Netflix film KPop Demon Hunters, which has achieved significant popularity. The key art for K-Pop Rising depicts a trio of performers, with two characters resembling popular figures from the film. While the demon-slaying aspect is absent, the game's aesthetic and focus on a pop music trio strongly echo the movie's success. KPop Demon Hunters has been cited as Netflix's most-watched film, with over 500 million views, and has received critical acclaim including multiple Oscar and Grammy wins.
