The first six Kingdom Hearts games have experienced a significant surge in popularity on Steam, climbing the platform's bestseller charts following a new trailer reveal for Kingdom Hearts 4 at D23 and a substantial 70% discount on the franchise's collections. Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX reached the third spot on Steam's U.S. Top Sellers list, positioned behind only Mortal Shell 2 and Counter-Strike 2. According to SteamDB, the collection has drawn over 9,600 concurrent players in the last 24 hours, nearing its peak player count since its initial Steam release.

This renewed interest is largely attributed to the unveiling of a four-minute trailer for Kingdom Hearts 4 during the D23 event. The trailer confirmed a release window set for late 2027 and showcased a new world inspired by Pixar's Coco. It also revealed that Donald and Goofy will be playable characters in a mainline installment for the first time, while King Mickey will feature in distinct storybook sequences reminiscent of the Paper Mario style. The game is slated for a simultaneous launch on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X.

Coinciding with the game announcements, Square Enix initiated a 70% discount on the Kingdom Hearts Integrum Masterpiece collection, making the entirety of the main saga available for $29.99 on PC. This discount applies to individual games and bundles as well, with the sale scheduled to conclude on August 20.

Further bolstering excitement, D23 also featured the announcement of a Kingdom Hearts anime series in development for Disney Channel and Disney Plus. While specific details regarding whether the anime will adapt the games' complex narrative or introduce new content remain scarce, series creator Tetsuya Nomura is involved in the project. Early visuals for the anime reveal a character similar to Sora, wielding the Kingdom Key and dressed in fur attire, prompting speculation about a Keyblade wielder from a past era.

With the release of Kingdom Hearts 4 anticipated sometime next year, players have a strong incentive to catch up on the series. The current sale provides a limited-time opportunity for prospective Keyblade wielders to acquire the existing titles at a significantly reduced price.
