Kit Harington, known for his role as Jon Snow in "Game of Thrones," has shared a disappointing update regarding his future as Dane Whitman, also known as Black Knight, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Harington was introduced as the character in the 2021 film "Eternals." Despite the film's post-credits scene hinting at the return of its superhero team, no further development has occurred for the "Eternals" characters, a situation exacerbated by the film's mixed critical reception and underwhelming box office performance.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige acknowledged in 2022 that there were no immediate plans for "Eternals 2," and subsequent information has not suggested a change in this stance. While many fans have held out hope for Harington's return, potentially in a project centered around a different team, the actor himself has indicated that such a return is unlikely in the near future. Speaking with Movie Web, Harington stated he is not aware of any invitations to rejoin the Marvel universe.

"I'd love to [return]," Harington said. "I don't think there's any plan to. I hate to break it to you."

He added that he finds the character compelling, particularly the narrative potential of the Ebony Blade, which has a dark side that intensifies with each kill, presenting a parable for addiction and the descent from good to bad. However, he reiterated, "we'll see, I don't know if there's any plan."

Marvel's upcoming slate is extensive, with major events like "Avengers: Doomsday" scheduled for December and "Avengers: Secret Wars" set for December 2027. The following year is slated to begin a new phase with "X-Men," "Ghost Rider," and "Black Panther 3." Harington himself has previously declined an opportunity to return as Jon Snow in a "Game of Thrones" sequel series. He is confirmed to play Gilderoy Lockhart in HBO's upcoming "Harry Potter" series, taking over the role from Nicholas Hoult.
