Leonardo DiCaprio and Christian Bale are said to be attached to Michael Mann's Heat 2, reportedly stepping into the roles of Chris Shiherlis and Vincent Hanna, respectively. The news comes after months of speculation and difficult negotiations, according to a report from TheWrap.

DiCaprio, known for his roles in Inception and The Wolf of Wall Street, and Bale, celebrated for his work in The Dark Knight trilogy, are set to portray characters originally featured in the 1995 crime thriller Heat. In the original film, Al Pacino played Hanna and Val Kilmer portrayed Shiherlis.

Further Cast Additions and Negotiations

Beyond DiCaprio and Bale, Adam Driver is reportedly in deep negotiations to play the villain Otis Wardell. Stephen Graham is also in talks to take on the role of Neil McCauley, a character originally played by Robert De Niro in the first film. The report indicates that several actresses are being considered for the role of Charlene, with other prominent names showing interest in joining the project.

Development and Michael Mann's Vision

Michael Mann, the director of the original Heat, first conceived the idea for a prequel through a novel co-written with Meg Gardiner, which was released in 2022. Mann has expressed his intention to direct Heat 2 as his next film, having previously stated that the groundwork for the project was laid during the filming of Ferrari. The novel and subsequent film are expected to explore events that occurred both before and after the original 1995 film.

While Amazon MGM has reportedly stated that deals have not been finalized, the expectation is that filming will commence in November 2026. A release date for Heat 2 has not yet been announced, and given the project's lengthy development, further details may take some time to emerge.
