Publisher Neowiz may have inadvertently revealed the literary inspiration for the upcoming sequel to its successful Soulslike title, Lies of P. A recently filed trademark for a game titled "Wonders of O" strongly suggests a connection to L. Frank Baum's iconic Oz book series.
This potential direction was foreshadowed in the post-credits scene of Lies of P, which concluded with a character referencing Dorothy and showing someone in ruby slippers clicking their heels together. The character Giangio is revealed to be Philippus Paracelsus, who implies he had a hand in the events that transpired in Krat and that he needs to find Dorothy. This moment directly sets up a narrative that draws from The Wizard of Oz.
Lies of P itself adapted Carlo Collodi's Pinocchio, but reimagined its protagonist and world without directly using the character's most recognizable name. It is plausible that a sequel will similarly draw from Baum's Oz novels without explicitly naming its setting or characters as "Oz." The post-credits scene hints that characters from Oz might be brought to Krat, rather than the player venturing directly to Oz.
Developers Neowiz and Nough confirmed a sequel to Lies of P was in development shortly after the original game's 2023 launch. The studio has not yet provided a release window for the sequel. Prior to this, the developers released the prequel expansion, Overture, which included much-requested difficulty options. Lies of P has also recently been released on Nintendo Switch 2 with its DLC included.
