Marvel Comics and Lucasfilm are set to launch their first official crossover between the Star Wars and Marvel universes with a new five-issue limited series titled Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles. The series, written by Kevin Smith with art by David Marquez, is scheduled to begin in January 2027, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of Star Wars: A New Hope.
Hope Assembles will integrate the classic Star Wars characters directly into Earth-616, Marvel's main comic continuity. This will bring iconic pairings such as Luke Skywalker with Captain America, Han Solo and Chewbacca with Wolverine and the Guardians of the Galaxy, and Princess Leia with Black Widow and Black Panther. Obi-Wan Kenobi will encounter Deadpool, Daredevil, Hawkeye, and the Human Torch.
Villains will also cross paths, with early artwork depicting Darth Vader alongside Doctor Doom, Thanos, and Ultron. The premise involves a reality-shattering spell that brings the events of A New Hope to Earth and places the Star Wars characters within Marvel's primary universe.
Kevin Smith, a longtime fan of both franchises, expressed his long-held desire to see characters like Spider-Man or Doctor Doom interact with the Star Wars cast. Michael Siglain, creative director at Lucasfilm Publishing, described Hope Assembles as a "love letter to Star Wars, to Marvel, and to comics in general," promising an exciting and heartfelt experience.
The series will run monthly for five issues, concluding in May 2027. The crossover aims to create unique team-ups and confrontations that have not been previously explored in either franchise's history.
