Magic: The Gathering and Final Fantasy's collaboration will extend through at least April 2027, with a newly announced promo card tied to the upcoming Final Fantasy 7 Revelation. This continued integration follows the release of Magic: The Gathering's well-received Universes Beyond Final Fantasy set over a year ago.

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, the concluding chapter of Square Enix's FF7 remake trilogy, is slated for release on April 8, 2027. Physical editions of the game, available through participating retailers while supplies last, will include a foil, Final Fantasy-themed Magic: The Gathering promo card. This card features Cloud Strife and Sephiroth.

The promo card is a reprint of "Final Showdown," a white instant originally printed as a mythic rare in 2024's Outlaws of Thunder Junction. The card's spree mechanic allows players to choose from three effects: removing abilities from creatures, granting indestructible to a creature, or destroying all creatures on the battlefield. Its flexibility allows for various strategic plays, from creature protection at two mana to a full board wipe at six mana, or a combination of effects at eight mana.

The reprint of Final Showdown showcases new art by Tetsuya Nomura, depicting the iconic clash between Sephiroth and Cloud. This visual representation aligns with the game's narrative, where the planet faces existential threat.

This is not the first time a Magic card has been offered as a preorder bonus for a Final Fantasy game. Physical Nintendo Switch copies of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth included a full-art foil Zack Fair promo card with art by Nomura. Beyond these direct tie-ins, Wizards of the Coast has released additional Final Fantasy products. In December 2025, four Scene Boxes were launched, recreating key moments from Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy 8, Final Fantasy 9, and Final Fantasy 15. A Chocobo Bundle with themed lands and alternate-art cards was also released during that holiday period.

Magic principal designer Gavin Verhey previously acknowledged that the initial large set could not encompass all desired elements from the franchise's extensive history. He expressed enthusiasm for the possibility of further collaborations, noting that many side games and other elements were not explored. The ongoing releases, from the December products to the Zack Fair promo and now the Final Showdown card, suggest a developing pattern of supplemental releases for the crossover.

With Final Fantasy 7 Revelation still several months away, the continued output of Final Fantasy-themed Magic: The Gathering products indicates that further surprises may still be planned for this successful collaboration.
