Maika Monroe, a prominent figure in modern horror since her breakout roles in 2014's It Follows and The Guest, has expressed openness to returning to the universe established by director Adam Wingard. While Monroe did not appear in the recent quasi-sequel Onslaught, which shares continuity with The Guest through the "KPG-verse," she indicated a willingness to work with Wingard again.
"I love Adam so much," Monroe told Polygon in a recent interview. "We grabbed coffee not too long ago, and he's awesome, so I would love to work with him again, so we'll see."
The Guest, starring Monroe and Dan Stevens, followed a charming army veteran who infiltrates a family following the death of their son. Its narrative has recently been linked to Onslaught, a film directed by Wingard and written by Simon Barrett, which features Stevens as a scientist involved with super-soldier experiments. Wingard confirmed that Onslaught is set near the town featured in The Guest, and both films are part of his and Barrett's KPG-verse.
Despite playing different characters in both films, Stevens suggested a potential connection between his roles. "I think he’s related to the genesis of the David character in some form [or] fashion, and I think that’s something that maybe we’ll more literally explore hopefully in future installments," Stevens told The Wrap. He also mentioned to The Hollywood Reporter that they are "definitely open to more KPG-verse" and that an Onslaught sequel is being considered, though a direct sequel to The Guest is not immediately planned.
Wingard, known for collaborations with Barrett on films like You're Next and the V/H/S franchise, has established a shared continuity that allows for interconnected storytelling. The potential for future installments, whether continuing the stories of David and Anna or introducing new narratives within the KPG-verse, remains a possibility, with Monroe, Wingard, and Stevens all appearing receptive to revisiting this shared cinematic world.
