Nintendo has released a free update for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on Switch 2, adding an eight-player splitscreen mode. This new feature divides the usual four-player split into eight smaller, portrait-style windows, allowing for larger group play sessions.

To utilize the eight-player splitscreen, players will need eight controllers and sufficient seating for all participants. Additionally, the update introduces 'CameraPlay,' a feature that displays friends' faces on screen during races. CameraPlay is available for races with two to four players.

The update also brings enhancements to the game's visuals and reduces load times. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was recently recognized by IGN as one of the 30th anniversary's racing game masterpieces.
