Nintendo has released update 1.7.0 for Mario Kart World, adding new content to the game for the first time in a while. The update introduces two new routes for the Knockout Tour mode: The Drill Rally, which traverses from Wario Shipyard to Bowser's Castle, and the Boomerang Rally, extending from Salty Salty Speedway to Whistlestop Summit.

While this update does not include new tracks or expansions to the game's open world, the addition of these new Knockout Tour routes suggests that Nintendo has further plans for the game. The in-game menu indicates that six more routes are planned for future updates. This latest content drop is considered one of the most substantial for the Switch 2's top-selling title, a move that has been met with enthusiasm from the game's community.

Beyond the new routes, version 1.7.0 also enhances Mario Kart World's photo mode, now allowing players to add stickers to their images. Touchscreen and mouse support are included to facilitate easier sticker placement. The update also brings adjustments to item rates and other gameplay tweaks. Previously, updates have added modes like Bob-omb Blast, but this patch offers more significant new experiences for players.
