Nintendo has released the 1.1.0 update for Mario Tennis Fever, bringing a Super Mario Galaxy-themed overhaul to the Switch 2 title. This update also enables players who do not own the game to participate in matches through GameChat.
The patch introduces the Black Hole Racket, a new Fever Racket. When a Fever Shot is executed with this racket, a black hole materializes at the impact point. Nearby players, excluding the ball itself, are drawn towards the black hole and sustain damage if they get too close. Reaching zero HP results in a knockout by being sucked into the black hole.
Joining the new racket is the Galaxy Court, a new playing field set on a planetoid inspired by Super Mario Galaxy. This court features reduced ball speed and increased bounce. A new Special Match mode is tied to the Galaxy Court, incorporating an aggressive curvature reminiscent of planetary surfaces, as described in Nintendo's patch notes. During these matches, Prankster Comets appear and alter gameplay conditions, potentially accelerating the action or introducing one-hit knockout scenarios.
The Play via GameChat mode allows individuals without the game to join friends, supporting both swing and button controls, as well as the Mix It Up mode.
Beyond new content, the update implements extensive balance adjustments for both characters and Fever Rackets, and makes Star Shots easier to execute. Full details are available in the patch notes.
This update arrives shortly before The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, which is set to stream on Peacock starting July 30.
