In 2027, Marvel and Star Wars, both properties under the Disney umbrella, will officially cross over in a limited-run comic book series. The five-part series, titled Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles, is set to bring characters like Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, and Han Solo into Marvel's Earth-616 universe, where they will encounter heroes such as Black Widow, Captain America, and Hulk. Villains from both franchises, including Darth Vader and Doctor Doom, are also expected to team up.
The crossover coincides with the 50th anniversary of Star Wars. The series is written by filmmaker Kevin Smith, known for his work on comic runs like Daredevil and Batman, with David Marquez serving as the lead artist. Smith expressed his long-held desire for such a crossover, recalling his childhood subscription to Marvel's Star Wars comics and his wish for characters like Spider-Man or Doctor Doom to interact with the Star Wars saga. "Nobody had to Force my hand!" Smith stated, expressing his excitement to write the series.
The official logline for the event states that Hope Assembles will anchor the Star Wars franchise within Marvel's 616 universe. Earth's Mightiest Heroes will witness the events of 'A New Hope' unfold on Earth after a reality-altering spell. The first issue is slated for release in January 2027, with subsequent issues arriving monthly, concluding in May 2027.
