Sony's ongoing PlayStation Network (PSN) account requirements have led to the region-locking of Marvel Tōkon's PC version in 132 countries where PSN is not yet available. This mirrors a previous controversy involving Helldivers 2, which was initially made unplayable in numerous regions due to similar restrictions.
The fighting game community, particularly in countries like Pakistan, has expressed frustration as their regions are among those affected. Other impacted nations include the Dominican Republic, Morocco, Egypt, Fiji, Jamaica, Monaco, and Vatican City. This move comes after Sony had previously reversed similar region restrictions on PC ports of titles such as God of War Ragnarok, Spider-Man 2, Ghost of Tsushima, and The Last of Us Part II Remastered, following significant player backlash.
Despite these issues, Marvel Tōkon is set to hold an open beta on PC and PS5 from July 24 to July 26. The beta will feature playable characters Blade, Ghost Rider, Loki, and Deadpool. This announcement follows a series of recent PR challenges for Sony, including shifts in its physical sales strategy and adjustments to its policy on PC releases for single-player games.
