Famed voice actor and Critical Role Game Master Matt Mercer will join the ranks of Warframe's voice cast, Digital Extremes announced during TennoCon 2026. Mercer will voice Brysko, a new playable warframe with a noir-themed detective persona, set to debut in the upcoming Tau expansion.
Brysko was showcased during a demo of Warframe: Tau. The demonstration featured Albrecht Entrati repairing Brysko, who then equips gauntlets that enhance his close-range combat abilities. Following this, Brysko embarks on a covert mission within the city of Fornax. During this mission, he encounters Hunra, the Sentient ruler of Tau, and engages in several combat sequences.
The demo provided a glimpse of a casino players can visit, offering minigames, including a card game with Hunra. Brysko also appears to have a connection with the casino's lounge singer, though the significance of this relationship remains unclear.
Mercer's performance is expected to be central to the Tau expansion, with Brysko's inner monologue serving as the primary narration for the unfolding story, mirroring the style of classic noir detectives. This casting fulfills a long-standing ambition for Warframe creative director Rebecca Ford, who had consistently sought opportunities to collaborate with Mercer.
"If you spend enough time here in London, Ontario, you start to get really isolated-feeling, and you never really get a chance to meet your heroes," Ford told Polygon. "Once a year, we go to The Game Awards, and every year I meet Matt, and I’m always like, 'Can we please do something?' I have the perfect piece of Warframe mythos for you to put your mark on as a brand new character.' It just finally worked out after they let us out of Canada for just one day a year."
Community director Megan Everett likened Ford's success in recruiting high-profile voice talent to Thanos assembling the Infinity Stones. Everett praised Mercer's prior work with Critical Role and in games such as The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
"I think the greatest thing about it is that it’s all organic, having to just be in the right place or know someone who knows someone," Everett stated. "There’s just really fun, crazy moments that transpire, that result in these really cool experiences. I don’t know how we keep getting away with it, but the fact that we have the Infinity Stones of people we love, appreciate, and respect in this industry in our game has been rewarding, and I hope people really enjoy Matt Mercer."
The Warframe: Tau expansion, featuring Matt Mercer as Brysko, is slated for a 2026 launch. Players will need to have completed all existing story content to access the expansion.
