Pricing details for Microsoft's upcoming special edition 25th anniversary Xbox Series X console have surfaced, indicating a premium cost for the translucent green hardware. According to a report from Dealabs user billbil-kun, the console is expected to retail for €899.99, a price point that typically correlates to $899.99 in the United States.
This special edition is also slated for a November 27 release, a date that strategically falls around the Black Friday shopping period. This launch window is slightly later than a previously leaked October 20 release date for the accompanying 25th anniversary Xbox Series X controller, which will also be bundled with the console but sold separately.
While the €899.99 price is substantial, the report notes it is approximately €100 more than the current standard Xbox Series X with a disc drive and matches the price of a standard PlayStation 5 Pro. The console's design, a translucent green reminiscent of the original Xbox from 25 years ago, is expected to appeal to long-time fans.
The increasing cost of consoles can be attributed to several factors, including tariff and logistical uncertainties faced by manufacturers, alongside rising memory costs influenced by the demand from AI data centers. This trend is also reflected in recent hardware pricing adjustments, such as Nintendo's confirmed new U.K. pricing for the Switch 2, which will see cost increases in the U.S. and Europe starting September 1.
Microsoft is anticipated to formally announce the pricing and availability of this special edition Xbox Series X next week during Gamescom, with official confirmation expected from the event.
