Milki Delivery, slated for release on November 17th for Windows PC, presents a seemingly idyllic world inspired by Studio Ghibli's signature visual style. Players step into the shoes of Neha, a young girl who rides her bicycle to deliver milk from her pet cow, Milki, to the inhabitants of a rural region. However, beneath its bright visuals and simple, mouse-controlled gameplay, the game explores deeper, melancholic themes.

Co-developer Blibloop explained that while Milki Delivery touches on darker elements, such as the mysterious disappearance of cows, these narrative threads remain in the background. Players can engage with these mysteries or focus on the core gameplay loop of delivering milk and assisting characters, without impacting their overall experience. The primary focus remains on exploring a beautiful countryside, meeting endearing characters, and helping them foster community bonds.

During a two-hour preview, the game showcased lush green and blue vistas, where Neha encounters individuals rediscovering passions like baking and befriends a dog that joins her on her journeys. These interactions are periodically punctuated by reminders of the world's emptiness, stemming from the absence of cows and the subsequent erosion of community. Neha's milk deliveries serve as a catalyst for rebuilding these connections.

Blibloop cited My Neighbor Totoro as a key inspiration, aiming to parallel its approach of weaving background anxieties into a child's whimsical exploration. "Since you experience this world through the eyes of a young girl, Neha, the atmosphere remains lighthearted, and she doesn’t really understand everything," Blibloop said. "But as a player, you catch glimpses of a darker past, all while focusing on rebuilding a better future."

The narrative's development was organic, emerging from gameplay decisions. Initially, the team envisioned Neha traveling between biomes to deliver milk without a concrete reason. The idea of her searching for a friend for Milki provided a narrative justification for her extended journeys, necessitating the absence of other cows in the vicinity.

Initially conceived as a "road-trip management game" with a cozy spin, Milki Delivery emphasizes a gentle, uplifting experience. The gameplay loop involves leaving home, delivering milk, interacting with locals, and completing simple quests, typically involving item delivery or meeting new characters. The developers describe the experience as comforting, allowing players to role-play lives they might not otherwise experience, finding solace in routine within a fantasy setting.

Despite a crowded market of new game releases, especially within the cozy genre, Blibloop believes Milki Delivery can stand out through its curated experience and community-focused themes. The developers prioritize creating short, time-respecting experiences. "We believe in creating short experiences that respect your time," Blibloop stated, contrasting this with games that can feel overly long.

The team hopes the Ghibli-esque atmosphere and the image of a delivery girl on a red bike will resonate with players. Milki Delivery will be available on Steam, and players can wishlist it now.
