Infinity Ward has released the initial update for the Modern Warfare 4 beta, implementing changes based on player feedback from the beta's opening day. The patch addresses key areas including footstep audio, weapon lethality, and map voting.

The studio confirmed that footstep audio and gear sounds have been reduced in both volume and audible range, a direct response to community concerns. "We heard you loud and clear on the footstep volume, so we've adjusted things downward for today," the developer stated in its official patch notes.

Time-to-kill (TTK) has also been adjusted for certain weapons. Specifically, the ISO Nightshade SMG and the Oris 8.6 marksman rifle have had their damage ranges and headshot multipliers decreased. Infinity Ward indicated that these adjustments are preliminary and further changes are planned as data and feedback continue to be reviewed.

New Content and Map Improvements

A new map named Cachette and a new game mode called Inflation have been added to the multiplayer rotation. Inflation challenges players to eliminate enemies and defeat High-Value Target (HVT) operators to accumulate cash, with the wealthiest players becoming marked targets. The addition of Cachette brings the total number of maps to four, enabling the long-awaited map voting feature.

Visibility has been improved on the Transit 213 map with brighter shadowed areas and adjusted color balance. The update also includes a comprehensive list of bug fixes, ranging from issues with Mobility Course completion to controller reconnection errors. For PC players experiencing difficulties, Infinity Ward is actively working on improving the Secure Attestation Wizard, a tool designed to diagnose and resolve beta access problems.

However, some issues remain. Join-in-progress functionality is temporarily disabled on the Kill Block map due to a bug in round transitions, and cooking certain lethal equipment can still cause frame rate drops. The developer stated that both of these issues are under active investigation.

The beta is currently in its Early Access phase for pre-order customers and will transition to an Open Beta weekend from August 28th to September 1st. PC players will need TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot enabled to participate.
