Capcom has unveiled new details regarding the Boost Bracer, an enigmatic new mechanic set to debut in the upcoming Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance expansion. This system promises to augment hunter fighting styles with additional combustion-fueled power, drawing clear inspiration from Capcom's own Devil May Cry series.
The Boost Bracer operates through a new attack type called the Boost Driver, with each weapon type featuring its own iteration. These Boost Drivers appear to utilize a charge system, reminiscent of the wirebug charges used for switch skills in Monster Hunter Rise. Upon deployment, the Boost Driver temporarily enters the hunter into a new 'Boost state', which offers several advantages.
While in the Boost state, guarding becomes more effective, and certain weapon combos can be extended with dramatic new attacks. For instance, bow users can append an explosive final shot to their power volley combos. Existing attacks are also enhanced; a boosted dual blade demon combo gains echoing slashes, and the charge blade's elemental discharge receives additional visual effects. The system allows for boost activation during specific actions, with footage showing its integration into great sword charges, sword and shield plunging thrusts, and gunlance guards.
These layered explosive variations and added visual flair have led to comparisons with Devil May Cry's combat system. While not explicitly stated to be an 'Exceed' system, the influence is noticeable.
Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance is slated for release in 2027 and is currently available for wishlist on Steam.
