Capcom is set to implement a permanent price reduction for Monster Hunter Wilds, approximately 18 months after its initial release. This pricing adjustment will go into effect on August 3, preceding the launch of the game's "Ascendance" expansion. The company announced the upcoming changes on X on July 14, stating that the move aims to streamline options for both new and returning players.

Alongside the price cut, Capcom will discontinue some existing bundle products and introduce new value bundles. The current Deluxe Edition and cosmetic DLC pass will be phased out. The "Ascendance" expansion, revealed at Summer Game Fest, will transport players to aerial environments featuring floating ruins and new Elder Dragons. While "Ascendance" currently has a broad release window of "2027," many anticipate a release in early 2027, roughly two years after the base game's debut.

This pricing strategy draws parallels to the Iceborne expansion for Monster Hunter World. Upon its release, Iceborne was priced at $40, while the base Monster Hunter World saw a significant price drop from $60 to $20. While it remains speculative, some anticipate Monster Hunter Wilds could see a reduction to around $40, with the expansion priced similarly, potentially leading to an $80 bundle. This upcoming price change suggests that players considering a purchase of Monster Hunter Wilds should consider waiting until next month.

Further potential savings may arise from an upcoming PlayStation sale, which could offer additional discounts. The modifications to bundles and pricing also raise questions about the game's microtransactions. Some players have expressed dissatisfaction with the current microtransaction model, noting that even DLC passes have not provided access to all paid add-ons. It remains to be seen if the new bundle configurations will simplify the game's microtransaction offerings.
