A player's recent experience in Mortal Shell 2 highlights the importance of thorough exploration, particularly in the game's early stages. The Vatra's Seal, an item acquired shortly after obtaining the first shell, Haros, is described as a powerful tool that significantly simplifies combat and offers unique defensive and offensive capabilities.

This seal, found on Haros's corpse after a scripted loss against the Tar Golem boss in the prologue, grants the ability to harden the player's body. This action nullifies incoming damage, freezes the player mid-animation, and can be timed to execute perfect parries that deal substantial posture damage. Notably, unlike its predecessor where the hardening ability was tied to a specific shell, the Vatra's Seal in Mortal Shell 2 is universally available regardless of the currently equipped shell.

Despite its advantages, the Vatra's Seal can be easily missed. The author recounts an instance where, after opting to replay the prologue in Mortal Shell 2 despite having access to a beta save that would have granted the item, they neglected to loot Haros's body. Subsequently, after progressing deep into the game, they discovered the seal was missing and found that there is no in-game method to retrieve it once the prologue area is exited.

This oversight left the player relying on the Untarnished Seal, which offers a standard guard that depletes posture and leaves the player vulnerable. Another available seal, the Infinite Seal, allows for animation canceling but lacks a defensive guard, increasing the risk of taking damage if parries are missed. The Vatra's Seal is presented as superior due to its damage negation, animation canceling properties, and perfect parry functionality.

The author strongly advises new players to ensure they loot Haros's body during the prologue to acquire the Vatra's Seal, even if they do not intend to use it for the entirety of their playthrough, to retain the option.

In other news, developer Cold Symmetry has released a patch for Mortal Shell 2 that includes adjustments such as boss difficulty reductions and an increase in in-game currency found. However, the patch did not address player frustrations with the game's bear traps.
