Mortal Shell 2 has received its first significant post-launch update, introducing a range of improvements and new content a little over a week after its release. The patch addresses several key areas, including combat balance, world navigation, and the addition of new items.
Combat and Itemization Adjustments
A notable change in this update concerns riposte mechanics. Damage dealt through ripostes will now scale with enemy health, making New Game Plus and Night Mode less punishing. Additionally, player riposte recoveries have been shortened, allowing for faster control restoration. The damage calculation for ripostes has also been revised to ensure it applies consistently, resolving instances where it was previously applied twice or not at all. Invulnerability windows during ripostes are now more consistent and extend to the end of the animation.
New consumable items have been added to the game. Fragile tarstones are a new type of tarstone that breaks after losing durability. The glimpse stone wears down as enemies are defeated and then breaks into glimpses. Egon's stone can now be acquired, allowing players to revive at a dungeon entrance at the cost of its durability, without losing gloom upon death when it breaks.
World Navigation and Cosmetics
Traversal within Mortal Shell 2 has been improved with the addition of more beacons in Fainweald and Mammon, though these are only active during the day. Some problematic chests have been reset, and various other items have been scattered throughout the world. Players can also now acquire cosmetic headpieces, including one resembling a hand-stitched frog and another like a potato sack with an eyehole, after completing certain questlines.
Enemy tracking and magnetism have also been tweaked to be more forgiving, with developers indicating that these will be adjusted on an individual basis in future patches. Several cutscenes have been fixed to resolve awkward character animations. To improve performance in certain areas with high enemy concentrations, their numbers have been reduced.
The full patch notes detail a comprehensive list of other fixes, tweaks, additions, and changes implemented in this update.
