Sony has rolled out a new PlayStation 5 firmware update, version 26.06-14.00.00, introducing several new features and enhancements. The update notably includes an improved visual setting for PS5 Pro owners and a new way to track voice chat participants.
For users with a PS5 Pro, the "Enhance PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR)" image quality setting will now be enabled by default. This feature aims to provide sharper and smoother visuals in games, and it is compatible with titles that supported the previous version of PSSR. Users can disable this setting by navigating to Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output > Enhance PSSR Image Quality.
The update also introduces a new voice chat feature that allows players to see who is currently speaking within a voice chat group. This functionality can be activated through the voice chat card in the control centre by selecting "More" > "Display Who's Speaking" and enabling "Display Names." Users can also adjust the on-screen position of the speaker indicator.
Additionally, new widgets have been added to the PS5's Welcome Hub. The "Trending Now" widget will highlight ten multiplayer games or modes that are currently experiencing a surge in popularity, including new releases or games with significant content updates. The "Top 10" widget displays the ten most played games in a user's region over the past week, offering insights into active gaming communities.
Changes have also been made to Bluetooth features in certain regions. If the "Turn Off Bluetooth" function is accessed via Settings > Accessories > General > Advanced Settings, the console will not enter rest mode, and HDMI Device Link will be disabled. Sony notes that this function is intended for specific scenarios like esports venues and should not be used for other purposes.
As with most system updates, Sony has also stated that overall system software performance and stability have been improved.
