Amazon MGM Studios has officially announced a new television series based on the iconic 1987 film RoboCop, directed by Paul Verhoeven. Peter Ocko, known for his work on "Lodge 49," will serve as showrunner, and James Wan of "The Conjuring" fame is attached as a producer. Wan expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating his long-time fandom for RoboCop and aiming to honor the original's themes of technology, identity, and corporate power while creating something new for a global audience.

This marks the latest venture into television for the RoboCop franchise. Following the original 1987 film, an animated series debuted in 1988, followed by two film sequels and a 21-episode live-action series in 1994. The IP later saw another animated series, "RoboCop: Alpha Commando," and a TV miniseries, "Prime Directives," before a hiatus until the 2014 film remake.

The most recent addition to the RoboCop universe was the 2023 video game "RoboCop: Rogue City," developed by Teyon. The game drew inspiration from the first two films, recreating the dystopian setting of Old Detroit with attention to detail and satisfying combat. It received generally warm reviews, offering a departure from fast-paced first-person shooters. Teyon released a standalone expansion for the game in 2025, featuring new missions and a playable Alex Murphy flashback.

However, the future of potential RoboCop game sequels appears uncertain. Teyon's next project is "Hunter: The Reckoning - Deathwish," an action game set in the World of Darkness, slated for release in 2027. Adding to the uncertainty, Nacon, the publisher of "RoboCop: Rogue City," has recently filed for insolvency.
