A deleted scene from the first season of the Star Wars series Andor, which focused on the character Syril Karn, has been revealed in the new companion book, The Art of Andor. The scene, described by prop master Martyn Doust, would have shown Syril receiving a blaster in pieces for the first time as he traveled to Ferrix.

According to Doust, who spoke in the book, a senior officer would have handed Syril a disassembled pistol, with Syril never having handled a weapon before. The officer would then reassemble it before giving it back to Syril. This moment was intended to underscore Syril's inexperience and his ambitious drive, which the showrunner Tony Gilroy had originally envisioned as part of a five-season plan before reworking it into a shorter narrative arc.

The scrapped scene was part of Syril's initial arc where his obsession with capturing Cassian Andor, following the events on Morlana One, leads him to Ferrix. Despite his ambition, the scene emphasized his naivete and lack of practical experience as an officer. Ultimately, Syril's plans on Ferrix fail, leading to his dismissal and return to Coruscant, a humiliation that the scene might have further amplified.

The Art of Andor, published by Abrams Books, explores the development of the series, offering insights into its visuals, worlds, and characters. The book delves into Syril Karn's journey from deputy inspector to ISB informant, detailing his motivations and early career.
