Nexus Mods has launched a suite of open-source modding tools designed to simplify the process of creating and publishing mods for games developed with the Unreal Engine. These tools are being released in anticipation of The Blood of Dawnwalker, Rebel Wolves' new vampire RPG, which is set to launch on September 2nd or 3rd, depending on the player's region.
The new plugin integrates directly into the Unreal Engine editor, supporting versions from 4.26 up to 5.8. According to Nexus Mods, the tools aim to eliminate common frustrations associated with Unreal Engine modding, such as dealing with command-line arguments, manual asset cooking, and complex file structures. The plugin offers a user-friendly interface for creating, preparing, and packaging mod projects.
Key features include built-in Mod Templates, including one for UE4SS, and the ability to save custom templates for faster workflow. Modders can also cook, package, and publish updates without leaving the editor. An integrated Upload API allows for direct publishing to Nexus Mods after an initial manual upload to obtain a unique code, streamlining the update process.
Nexus Mods plans to add more features in the future, such as additional templates and expanded editor utilities. The release of these tools suggests a proactive effort by Nexus Mods to foster a robust modding community for The Blood of Dawnwalker, potentially learning from the experiences of other Unreal Engine titles where modding momentum has slowed after initial release periods. By making mod creation more accessible, Nexus Mods hopes to encourage sustained mod development for new Unreal Engine titles.
