Nicolas Cage has stated that he believes one season of the Prime Video series 'Spider-Noir' was "perfect," following its recent cancelation by Amazon. The show, which debuted on MGM+ on May 25, 2026, and then globally on Prime Video, featured Cage as Ben Reilly, a private investigator and the sole super-powered vigilante in 1930s New York City. Viewers had the option to watch the series in either color or black and white.

'Spider-Noir' garnered a positive reception in reviews, with IGN awarding it an 8/10 and praising Cage's "Bogie-meets-Bugs Bunny pulp hero" for invigorating the "highly entertaining, genre-bending" series. Despite a strong initial viewership, the show reportedly saw a decline in engagement after its launch and fell out of Prime Video's top 10 chart. This dip in viewership, combined with the high production costs, is cited as the primary reason for Amazon's decision to cancel the series.

In a statement to Deadline, Cage expressed a philosophical outlook on the show's conclusion. "For me, one season is perfect, having said what I wanted to say with this dangerous, innovative, pop-art Spider-Man," he commented. "Onwards, upwards, inwards."

The series was part of a larger agreement between Amazon MGM Studios and Sony Pictures Television, which encompasses various Marvel character IPs from Sony. Another series under this deal, 'Silk,' was canceled shortly after 'Spider-Noir' received its greenlight. However, reports suggest that the cancelation of 'Spider-Noir' does not signify an end to the overall deal, with multiple other projects reportedly in development.

This news comes as 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' achieves significant box office success. The next cinematic installment for the character, 'Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse,' is scheduled for theatrical release on June 18, 2027.
