Nintendo hosted a special 40th-anniversary "Zelda Direct" presentation, highlighting upcoming collaborations and commemorating the enduring legacy of The Legend of Zelda series. While the event primarily focused on the impending remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, several other announcements catered to fans of the franchise, including new merchandise and details about the previously announced live-action film.

The Legend of Zelda movie, directed by Wes Ball, will arrive in theaters on April 30, 2027. Series creator Shigeru Miyamoto, who is involved in the film's production, teased that its subtitle will become apparent upon viewing and hinted at homages to the series and a significant role for the Triforce. Further updates on the movie are expected to be shared through "Nintendo Today."

The 40th-anniversary celebrations extend to physical merchandise. A Link and Epona Lego set is in development, and new amiibo figures featuring Ganondorf, Zelda, and Link are planned. Additionally, a Construct amiibo will be released. The Nintendo museum in Kyoto will also feature Zelda-themed exhibits, and a "The Legend of Zelda: Museum Official Book Vol. 2" is scheduled for release on November 5.

The long-awaited remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time received a significant showcase. Producer Eiji Aonuma presented early gameplay footage, focusing on the Kokiri Forest area and the Great Deku Tree dungeon. The remake is slated for release on November 5. Aonuma elaborated on changes differentiating the remake from the original Nintendo 64 release, such as the inclusion of a jump button, a rotatable camera, and the ability to swim and dive without requiring specific items. The presentation also offered a glimpse of Hyrule Field and introduced a new hint system called "Threads of Time," designed to guide players without direct instructions. The day/night cycle and elements of Hyrule Castle Town were also shown, highlighting subtle differences from the original game.

A new feature called "Zelda Notes" will be integrated, offering expanded functionality beyond its use in "Breath of the Wild" and "Tears of the Kingdom." For "Ocarina of Time," this includes "gossip quests" that utilize screenshots from Zelda Notes as guides to locate in-game areas. The Ocarina of Time peripheral and the Nintendo Switch microphone can be used to play in-game ocarina songs.

Rounding out the announcements was the reveal of a Zelda-themed Nintendo Switch 2. The console features green Joy-Cons adorned with a Triforce pattern and a black dock with a gold Triforce emblem. A complementary Zelda-themed Switch 2 Pro Controller and carrying case were also unveiled, with all Switch 2 accessories set to launch on October 29.

The direct concluded with a new trailer for the "Ocarina of Time" remake, offering a comprehensive look at its supporting characters, adult Link, and various locations within the game world.
