Nintendo has released update v23.0.0 for the Switch 2, a day after its anticipated Nintendo Direct presentation. The update was not previewed during the Direct, but its patch notes revealed a feature that brought a wave of nostalgia to players: the return of music to the Mii creation menu.
The update includes three music tracks that echo the Mii Maker songs from the Wii, Nintendo 3DS, and Wii U. This addition allows players to revisit their favorite system's tunes while customizing their Mii characters. While a minor change, the inclusion of Mii Maker music has been well-received by fans, many of whom are now expressing hope for the potential return of eShop music.
Beyond the musical Mii Maker, version 23.0.0 introduces several other notable system enhancements. GameChat has been improved, offering the ability to start new chats without requiring friend invites and maintaining a history of previously joined chats. Users can now review and edit which consoles are permitted to use virtual game cards.
Further improvements include Virtual Reality (VRR) support in TV mode, which enables adjustment of refresh rate output based on software performance, contingent on a dock update. System transfers between two Nintendo Switch 2 consoles are now supported, a feature that will benefit players who acquired special edition models, such as the recently released Zelda 40th anniversary edition. The Mii menu now displays three music tracks, and Miis can be shared via QR code.
Additionally, the Handheld Mode Boost can now be toggled on or off within Quick Settings. The Play activity feature has also been updated to combine playtime data across multiple consoles, offering a more consolidated view of a player's gaming habits.
