Hello Games has launched the Cosmos update for No Man's Sky, celebrating the game's 10th anniversary with a suite of new features. This free update allows players to embark on journeys to the stars, take control of space stations, and construct orbital bases.
Players can now travel long distances to reach the suns within each star system. The update's patch notes describe these celestial bodies as "burning spheres of plasma" that are "bright, spectacular, but ultimately lethal," warning that reaching them is "at your own risk."
Beyond venturing close to stellar bodies, the Cosmos update introduces new methods for base building. Players can now become the director of a space station, allowing them to customize its interior and exterior. This role also enables the formation of a "galactic alliance" with a custom name and banner.
For those seeking a more secluded home, the update adds deep-space outposts. These platform-based structures can be found in inhabited systems and feature alien vendors. Players can also build their own orbital bases by deploying a deep-space base computer, with the developers indicating a variety of construction possibilities for interstellar roleplaying.
The Cosmos update also includes a new star system map and derelict ships to salvage, some of which are noted to contain biohazards. Hello Games boss Sean Murray stated that the technologies developed for this update will be tested and refined, potentially for use in the studio's upcoming game, Light No Fire. Cosmos is available now for all owners of No Man's Sky.
