A dedicated fan project aiming to recreate The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on PC has been officially discontinued. YouTuber CryZENx, who had spent approximately a decade developing the project in Unreal Engine, announced its cessation on their Patreon page. The decision comes shortly after Nintendo revealed an official remake of Ocarina of Time during a recent Nintendo Direct showcase, slated for release on the Nintendo Switch 2.

While CryZENx did not explicitly state Nintendo's legal team as the direct cause for the project's end, they alluded to fears of "Nintendo ninjas" in comments, suggesting a desire to avoid potential legal entanglements. Nintendo has a well-documented history of actively protecting its intellectual property through legal means. Recent examples include a lawsuit against Palworld developer Pocketpair, which is reportedly nearing resolution, and an earlier action against an individual accused of hosting piracy sites. Additionally, in May 2025, Nintendo initiated legal proceedings against accessory company Genki over "unauthorized" Switch mockups, a case that was settled by September of that year.

Despite the cancellation of the Ocarina of Time recreation, CryZENx has engaged their community on Patreon to discuss potential future projects. Notably, the suggested new endeavors include other Nintendo intellectual properties, such as Diddy Kong Racing, Twilight Princess, and Metroid Prime Hunters, indicating the creator's continued interest in developing games based on Nintendo's franchises.
