Capcom is bringing back its Onimusha series after a 20-year absence with the upcoming title, Onimusha: Way of the Sword. The game will feature Miyamoto Musashi, Japan's legendary samurai known for his undefeated duel record and pioneering the use of dual-wielding katanas and wakizashis.

Game Informer editors visited Capcom's Osaka headquarters to get an early look at the game. During their roughly three-hour demo, they experienced the "open-town" section of the Edo-period Kyoto setting, encountering enemies such as the Rasho-gan, or Wish Warper, and confronting Genma creations in an underground laboratory. They also engaged with key development leads, including director Satoru Nihei, producer Akihito Kadowaki, art directors Hiroyuki Nara and Hiroshi Yugen, and lead writer Hiroshi Yamashita. Additionally, discussions were held with Motohide Eshiro, director of Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny, regarding the series' revival and the recent remaster of its predecessor.

The Game Informer coverage will extensively feature Musashi, starting with the reveal of the game's cover art. The artwork depicts Musashi armed with an Oni Gauntlet, his determined gaze set against a burning Kyoto as he prepares to face the surrounding Genma.

Beyond the focus on Onimusha: Way of the Sword, the latest Game Informer issue includes a variety of other content. Contributors have provided a retrospective on Kirby Super Star, an analysis of Capcom's recent successes, and hands-on impressions of The Blood of Dawnwalker. The issue also features a roundup of promising indie games, an in-depth look at the action platformer Crowsworn, and coverage of Castlevania: Belmont's Curse.

Readers can anticipate previews for numerous upcoming titles, including Orbitals, Signet City, Resident Evil Veronica, Erosion, Fable, Clutch, ILL, Gen Atlas, Echo Weaver, and Crossfire. Reviews are also slated for The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales, Star Fox, Rhythm Heaven Groove, Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced, Gothic 1 Remake, EA Sports College Football 27, and NBA The Run.

The digital edition of the Game Informer issue is available now, with physical copies scheduled to arrive in mailboxes from mid-to-late August. This timing coincides with the game's September launch, allowing fans to immerse themselves in Onimusha lore beforehand. The magazine will also be available in bookstores and newsstands globally around the same period. Subscriptions offer 10 issues per year, including both physical and digital versions.
