Ghost Town Games, the studio best known for the chaotic co-op cooking series Overcooked, has shared new gameplay footage for its upcoming title, Stage Fright. The adorably spooky co-op adventure is slated for release next year and draws inspiration from Luigi's Mansion and films like The Goonies and Stranger Things.
Stage Fright has been in development for approximately five years and follows protagonists Drew, Blake, and Charlie as they investigate an ancient mystery. The game emphasizes communication-driven cooperation, playable online or in local couch co-op. Players will work together to solve escape room-style puzzles and navigate more chaotic scenarios, with the developers aiming for a challenge that relies on mental agility rather than quick reflexes. Ghost Town Games stated their intention was to "protect the one-button accessibility of Overcooked and resist the temptation to introduce dexterity at the expense of inclusivity."
The developers aim to move players beyond the time-based urgency of Overcooked into a longer, more immersive narrative. Stage Fright's mysteries will require collaborative puzzle-solving and overcoming strange obstacles. While the game features three protagonists, it is designed for two players, allowing for character switching as the story progresses and unfolds from two perspectives.
No specific platforms have been confirmed beyond a PC release on Steam. Stage Fright is being published by Hello Games, the studio behind No Man's Sky, and is expected to launch in spring of next year.
