Overwatch 2 is set to welcome a new support hero named Doctrine, who draws inspiration from vampire lore. This addition arrives as part of the conclusion to Act III in The Reign of Talon storyline, bringing with it a suite of significant character adjustments and a new playable escort map.

Doctrine, described as a support hero with a high mechanical skill ceiling capable of dealing substantial damage and healing, will be available for a trial weekend starting September 12. Players can test the hero both at the Blizzcon convention and remotely. The new map, Watchpoint Grimsvotn, is a volcanic prison setting where Doctrine is reportedly held captive.

Further content updates are scheduled with the beginning of Overwatch Season 5 on October 6. The popular Dokiwatch event is also making a return. Significant character reworks are planned, with Roadhog slated to be redesigned as a tank character focused on team utility, according to Blizzard franchise leaders. Additionally, Sombra will transition to the support class.

Looking ahead, Blizzard also teased new content for Season 6 and a significant "Spotlight" event in February 2027. This future update is expected to introduce new story content, a fresh roster of heroes, and "amazing new systems" aimed at revitalizing the game. The Overwatch 2026 World Cup Finals are also scheduled to take place at Blizzcon this weekend, featuring performances from musical groups YOASOBI and LE SSERAFIM.

Blizzcon will also host a unique Overwatch tabletop RPG session led by Matt Mercer, the voice actor for Cole Cassidy, alongside other cast members. The event will also include auctions for various merchandise and collectibles to benefit the Make-A-Wish foundation. Earlier, Overwatch launched a collaboration with LE SSERAFIM, which features themed cosmetics, emotes, and in-game challenges.
