Blizzard Entertainment is set to host a unique tabletop role-playing game event at BlizzCon featuring Matthew Mercer, the renowned Dungeon Master for Critical Role and the voice of Overwatch's Cassidy. The adventure, titled "Questwatch," will take place live at the convention on September 13.

Mercer will act as the game master for the event, guiding four other heroes through a new narrative within the Overwatch world. While the specific heroes participating and the TTRPG system to be used remain undisclosed, the image accompanying the announcement shows Cassidy wielding dice that appear to be d12s, a type prominently featured in Critical Role's own TTRPG system, Daggerheart. Further details are expected to be revealed during BlizzCon's opening ceremony.

While not an official collaboration with Critical Role, the choice of Mercer, a prominent figure in the TTRPG community and a voice actor within Overwatch, signifies an ambitious crossover for the hero shooter. Blizzard has a history of cross-franchise collaborations, having previously partnered with brands like Burger King and Fortnite for in-game content and events. However, Questwatch represents a more significant integration of a different entertainment medium into the Overwatch IP.

The potential for TTRPG adaptations of popular gaming franchises is growing, with titles like Star Wars and Avatar: The Last Airbender receiving official tabletop treatments. Blizzard's own World of Warcraft is also slated to receive an official Dungeons & Dragons book in November. The specifics of Questwatch, including the game system and whether the adventure will tie into existing Overwatch lore, will be shared during the BlizzCon opening ceremony on September 12.
