Blizzard has revealed Overwatch 2's newest hero, a support character named Doctrine, who draws inspiration from vampire aesthetics. The announcement came during BlizzCon's opening ceremony, where an animated cinematic introduced Act 3 of the game's ongoing story. The cinematic depicted Doomfist, Sombra, Widowmaker, and Reaper on a mission to liberate Doctrine from a prison.
Doctrine exhibits shadowy, bat-like abilities. His visual design transitions from a gaunt appearance to a more refined, futuristic Victorian nightwalker-esque look. He wields a scepter capable of healing allies and deploys mechanical bats, referred to as drones, for offensive purposes. Doctrine's signature ability, Infuse, allows him to alter his next ability, transforming a dash into flight, for example.
Alongside the new hero, a new map, Watch Camp: Grimvotn, was showcased. This location is an escort map situated within an Icelandic prison camp.
Significant hero adjustments are also on the horizon for Overwatch 2. Roadhog is slated for a major rework intended to reposition him as a more viable tank option. Sombra is also undergoing a transformation, being reworked into a support character. Both Roadhog and Sombra will be playable on the Blizzcon show floor, along with the new map. Doctrine will be available for a limited time trial for players at home.
Further adding to the seasonal content, Dokiwatch cosmetics are set to return to the game. The full rollout of these updates is scheduled for October. Players can also anticipate the release of one more unrevealed hero later this year.
