Overwatch is preparing to launch its fourth season on August 11, bringing with it a series of much-anticipated map revisions. Blizzard announced these updates during the developer segment of the Overwatch Champion Series midseason tournament, detailing alterations to the Paraiso, Eichenwalde, and Busan maps. While some changes are purely cosmetic, others are designed to fix persistent gameplay issues that have frustrated players for years.

Paraiso will see the most significant adjustments, particularly around the attacker spawn area. Since the map’s introduction in 2022, the initial attacker lane has been a point of contention due to its narrow funnel, which easily allows defenders to control the area from elevated positions. Season 4 will introduce a new rooftop pool accessible via elevator outside the spawn, as well as an opened building on the left that leads to an alleyway overlooking the main chokepoint. These additions aim to provide attackers with more flanking options and angles to engage the defending team.

The main street of Paraiso is also being redecorated for a parade, featuring improved access to high ground and new routes through back alleys. The Club Sinestesia area on the third point has been completely overhauled with new music, a dance floor, and special effects that trigger when Lucio uses his ultimate within the club.

Eichenwalde, which has seen minimal changes since its 2016 debut, is being modified to become more attacker-friendly. A new high-ground area, also accessible by elevator, has been added outside the attacker spawn. Additionally, an extended platform along the right edge of the map is intended to assist flankers. The approach to the castle has also been improved with a new staircase at the beginning of the second point, offering a fresh route to the ramparts. A jump pad near the bridge leading into the sewers provides an incentive to explore that area, and a new window overlooking the ledge allows players to spot incoming threats.

Within the castle itself, the final defender spawn room will feature several new windows, including an overhead one for highly mobile heroes. Blizzard clarified that these are strictly visual additions and do not extend the spawn area or allow players to exploit attacking teams.

Busan is receiving a more extensive transformation, incorporating new narrative elements tied to the season’s story, which involves an invasion by the Junkers. The Downtown area is now littered with debris, and the Junkers' warship looms overhead. The primary change is to the capture point, where the Junker-themed tower now includes a jump pad and a viewing platform overlooking the objective. This replaces the previous walkway around the edge as the main source of high ground. A new friend for the balloon cow can also be found on the map.

The Meka Base map is getting new flank routes designed to alleviate chokepoints on the stairs near the spawns. These paths allow flanking heroes to get behind the enemy team, potentially breaking aggressive defensive holds on the stairs and providing pinned-down teams with better comeback opportunities.

Lastly, the Sanctuary map has been updated with a spring in an alcove featuring a new health pack, and a window overlooking the objective. While the spring is largely aesthetic, the window is a strategic addition. It provides a safer position for players to engage from, allowing them to take shots and retreat to cover more easily, while also offering an earlier warning of flanking attempts.

These map changes follow a similar design philosophy to the revamps of New Junk City and Suravasa in 2025, which focused on providing more cover, varied angles, and player choice. Blizzard stated that feedback on the season 4 changes will be actively monitored, with potential adjustments to follow.
