Palworld achieved a peak of 855,525 concurrent players on Steam over its recent launch weekend, marking the game's second-highest concurrent player count since its early access debut in January 2024. This surge in players coincided with the game's transition out of early access with its 1.0 release. The developers at Pocketpair expressed gratitude for the strong turnout.
"I promise I'll try not to just be posting Steam numbers every day but really, thank you so much, gamers," stated John "Bucky" Buckley, Pocketpair's head of publishing and communications, in a social media post. "Obviously, we had high expectations for 1.0 internally, but this is staggering. We really hope you are enjoying your time in Palworld again."
Palworld's all-time player peak remains at 2.1 million concurrent players, a figure that places it among Steam's highest-performing titles, surpassing games like Counter-Strike 2 and Dota 2. Only Black Myth: Wukong and PUBG have recorded higher all-time concurrent player counts on the platform.
The positive reception to the 1.0 release has led some players to request additional content, with suggestions ranging from randomized maps and altered resource nodes to a potential sequel. However, a segment of the player base has also voiced concerns regarding existing game systems.
"I just want them to finally fix and polish the many systems involved in bases and pal behavior," one player commented, citing issues with building stability, pathfinding, clipping, and work priorities. "The state this is in is fine for EA but hard to accept for a full release."
Following its successful launch weekend, Palworld's primary challenge will be player retention. While maintaining the peak numbers from this past weekend may be unlikely, even a fraction of that turnout would represent a significant achievement in a competitive gaming landscape. The game will need to continue to engage its player base to sustain its momentum.
