Palworld's real-world trading card game, Palworld: Official Card Game (POCG), has experienced rapid sell-outs and is currently being affected by scalpers, prompting an apology from its creators. The first set, "Dawn of Palpagos," launched internationally on July 30, featuring mechanics that blend combat and resource gathering, mirroring the video game's "Pokémon with guns" premise.
The popularity of the initial set has led to significant demand, exacerbating supply shortages. In response to the situation, the official Palworld OCG X account issued an apology, stating, "We sincerely apologize that the product remains in short supply, preventing many of you who are looking forward to it from purchasing it." This prompt response contrasts with the longer wait times for similar acknowledgments from The Pokémon Company regarding its own scalper issues.
Bushiroad, the game's developer, indicated that measures are being considered to ensure wider product availability and promised further updates. As an immediate step to combat scalping, a restock in Japan will reportedly feature products sold at pop-up stores without shrink wrap, a move intended to deter resellers.
Even before these measures, the scarcity drove prices up dramatically. Booster boxes with a suggested retail price of around $50 were listed on eBay for $160 to $200 shortly after launch. Early reports suggest the POCG has interesting mechanics distinct from the Pokémon TCG, though many initial reviews found on rival gaming sites were disclosed as paid advertisements.
