Palworld players seeking to expand their collection of Dark-type Pals can focus on Smokie and Shadowbeak. Both creatures offer unique advantages, whether for base work or combat, and knowing their locations and breeding possibilities can significantly aid players in their Palpagos Islands adventures.
Smokie Locations and Utility
Smokie, a Dark-type Pal notable for its ability to help locate and farm Chromite, can be found in several locations. The Scorched Hills area of Feybreak Island is a primary spot, with Smokie often encountered around coordinates (-933, -1278) and (-946, -1423). These wild Smokie are typically around Level 50 to 53. For those seeking a challenge or a guaranteed encounter, Alpha Smokie can be found as Level 60 bosses in the Sealed Realm of the Little Hero, situated south of the Loess Plains Fast Travel Point.
While Smokie can be assigned to Gathering Level 2 tasks at a base, its most significant utility lies in its Partner Skill, 'Dig, Smokie! Dig!'. This skill allows the Pal to detect and yield increased amounts of Chromite when fighting alongside the player. In terms of stats, a fully-boosted Smokie can reach high HP, Attack, and Defense values, with specific passive skills further enhancing these capabilities.
Smokie Breeding Combos
For players who prefer breeding over direct capture, Smokie can be hatched from various Pal combinations. Some of the more accessible breeding pairs include Chikipi + Verdash, Tanzee + Gumoss, Foxparks + Gobfin, Woolipop + Swee, Rooby + Munchill, Lifmunk + Direhowl, Beegarde + Hangyu, and Kelpsea + Daedream. It is important to note that Smokie is weak to Dragon-type attacks.
Shadowbeak: A Flying Mount and Combatant
Shadowbeak, another Dark-type Pal, serves as a powerful flying mount and enhances Dark-type attacks when ridden. This Pal is found within the No. 3 Wildlife Sanctuary in the Palpagos Islands. Players can reach this area by fast traveling to the Deep Sand Dunes Fast Travel Point in the Dessicated Desert and then navigating eastward using a flying or swimming mount. Specific coordinates within the sanctuary where Shadowbeak has been observed are (641, 648), with wild variants appearing around Level 51 to 55. Spawning is not guaranteed, so repeated visits might be necessary.
To utilize Shadowbeak as a mount, players must unlock the Shadowbeak Saddle from the Technology Tree at Level 47. Its Partner Skill, 'Modified DNA,' directly enables this mount functionality and boosts Dark-type damage. While Shadowbeak also possesses Gathering Level 2 Work Suitability, its primary strengths lie in combat and mobility. Like Smokie, Shadowbeak is also weak to Dragon-type attacks. Defeating Shadowbeak can yield valuable materials such as Carbon Fiber, Plasteel, Innovative Technical Manuals, and Large Pal Souls.
