Paralives, a life simulation game developed by Paralives Studios, is set to receive its first major expansion pack later this year, with developers confirming that all future expansions will remain free for players. This announcement comes as the game continues its early access period, with developers focusing on both ongoing improvements to the base game and the development of new content.
The life simulation genre has seen significant interest, with The Sims 4 often cited as the market leader. However, some players have moved away from The Sims 4 due to its long tenure, shifting gameplay preferences, or as a protest against recent corporate decisions. This has created an opportunity for games like Paralives, which has been closely watched since its development began and launched into early access in May 2026.
Early access players have noted that Paralives felt incomplete at launch. Current top reviews on Steam echo sentiments that the game released with a foundational structure, awaiting further development. To address these concerns and enhance the player experience, Paralives Studios has released several patches since the game's debut. The latest update, version 0.1.8, introduces a range of fixes and improvements.
Key changes in the 0.1.8 patch include the addition of an optional Classic camera mode, which allows for middle-click rotation and right-click panning, controllable via the game's options menu. Build Mode and Paramaker menus have also been expanded, offering more columns for easier navigation. Player animations, particularly for embarrassed emotions, have been updated for clearer communication. The patch resolves issues with the Para Info tab not displaying learned information correctly and restores functionality to TVs and radios, which now open to a random channel or station. Furthermore, children seated on couches now utilize age-appropriate animations, and households will correctly vacate homes when all their inhabitants have died. To prevent unintended outcomes, time will no longer advance in the Paramaker while Paras are being created or during their creation process. Visual glitches concerning mirrors, roofs, and shop displays have been addressed, alongside optimizations for animation loading, newspaper generation, and camera-occlusion fading to reduce performance stutters.
While smaller patches will be released less frequently to allow the team to concentrate on the upcoming free expansion, players can expect further updates. The developers are also encouraging player feedback to aid in preparing Paralives for its full release. The upcoming expansion is slated for release in late 2026, bringing new content to the life simulation title as promised by the studio.
