Persona 4 Revival, the upcoming remake of the beloved PS2 RPG, will not feature the scrapped gay romance option between the player and Yosuke Hanamura. Atlus producer Kazuhisa Wada stated in a recent interview that while the possibility was discussed, the decision was made not to include it, citing the significant additional work required.

Wada explained that the development team considered that if they were to implement the Yosuke romance, they would likely need to create similar romance arcs for all other male party members. "And if we did that, like that’s a lot of work. I don’t know if we could handle that," he told GamesRadar.

Persona 4 Revival is set to update some elements of the original game to be less insensitive for a modern audience. Yosuke Hanamura, the protagonist's best friend, is among the characters receiving adjustments, particularly regarding his past homophobic behavior towards fellow party member Kanji Tatsumi. The game's history with LGBTQ+ themes has been a point of discussion, with Atlus gradually addressing these aspects in recent titles, including the removal of a transphobic scene in Persona 3 Reload and making existing same-sex storylines more prominent.

Despite the groundwork laid by Yosuke's character arc, which could accommodate a romantic evolution, the inclusion of a single same-sex romance option was deemed too demanding. Fans who wish to experience the Yosuke romance can currently do so by using fan-made mods on the PC version of Persona 4 Golden, which retain the original game's content.
