Sega has provided new details regarding the physical release of the upcoming Persona 6, with information on its Japanese website suggesting a PlayStation 5 exclusive for physical editions and offering a potential window for the game's launch. The title was initially revealed at the Xbox Games Showcase in June.

According to the updated Japanese announcement page, Persona 6 is slated for release on PlayStation 5, Windows PC via Steam, and Xbox Series X. However, a specific annotation indicates that physical copies will be exclusive to the PlayStation 5 version in Japan. This distinction is notable given the generally lower popularity of Xbox consoles in Japan compared to other global regions, which may explain Sega's digital-only approach for other platforms in that territory. Sega has been contacted for confirmation regarding potential physical release plans for other platforms worldwide.

Should the physical edition remain exclusive to the PlayStation 5 globally, players wishing to own a disc version of Persona 6 will need to acquire it on Sony's current-generation console. This move could be seen as a strategic decision to address community concerns about the phasing out of physical media, particularly in light of Sony's own announcement to cease disc production in January 2028. The decision may also be an effort to avoid criticism similar to that received by other studios, such as Rockstar, for announcing digital-only releases for highly anticipated titles like Grand Theft Auto 6.

The timing of Sony's exit from physical media production provides a potential framework for estimating Persona 6's release window. Given that PlayStation disc production is scheduled to end in January 2028, and P-Studio director Kazuhisa Wada confirmed that Persona 6 development is underway "for its release after Persona 4 Revival," which is set for February 18, 2027, the game could realistically launch between March 2027 and January 2028.
