Persona series producer Kazuhisa Wada has stated that he believes remakes of the franchise's earliest titles, Persona 1 and Persona 2, are a necessity. In a recent interview with GamerBraves, Wada indicated a personal commitment to seeing these games remade for modern platforms, though he could not confirm if such projects are currently planned.
While Atlus and Sega have focused heavily on Persona 3, 4, and 5 in recent years, with ports, DLC, and full remakes for these entries, the PS1-era games have seen less attention. Persona 1 and Persona 2 originally released on the PlayStation and featured gameplay closer to the core Shin Megami Tensei series, differing from the social simulation and high school drama elements that came to define later Persona titles. Wada acknowledged that these earlier games are "most obviously in need of a gloss-up."
Currently, Wada and the Persona development team are focused on the upcoming remake of Persona 4, officially titled Persona 4 Revival, scheduled for release next February. Wada described Persona 4 as a "very important work" for him personally and significant to many within the series' fanbase. The producer's comments suggest a potential future direction for the franchise that includes revisiting its foundational entries, offering long-time fans the chance to experience them on contemporary systems.
